History
The history of the Posthotel Valbella
Travelers from Chur to the Engadin used to take the route via Lenzerheide. After Parpan, they reached the pass that separates the Churwaldnertal valley from Lenzerheide. The Acla alva, built in 1609, is the first Maiensäss building that is a reminder of the centuries-old agricultural use of Lenzerheide.
The valley opens up here, offering visitors a view of the gentle mountain ranges to the west and the rocky mountain ranges to the east. Not surprisingly, this landscape was given the fitting name "Beautiful Valley" or Valbella.
In the Siegfried Atlas of 1897, today's Valbella resort fraction was divided into the Maiensäss hamlets of Canols and Valbella as well as the secondary hamlets of Sartons, Val Schameala, Liebtgas, Acla alva and Fastatsch.
At first, it was mainly families from Chur who appreciated the nearby Lenzerheide and chose the place to build their vacation chalets as early as the late 19th century. They preferred the idyllic location north of Lake Heidsee and the hilly expanse of Lenzerheide itself. In 1886, the vacation home of the Heuss family of pharmacists was built on the wooded hill east of the church. Later, the Herold, Brun, Coray and Kuoni families, among others, built their vacation homes in Canols and Valbella, partly from the Aclas (Maiensässe) as predecessor buildings.
The so-called Valbella slope towards Sartons was built over with vacation homes in the second half of the 20th century.
The brothers Paul Fidel and Caspar Parpan took care of the Rutner service in winter and were thus responsible for keeping the passes open. In 1900, they acquired land for the construction of the Valbella guesthouse. When the post office was moved here in 1905, it was still called Lenzerheide-See. The name Valbella only became established in the 1940s.
The Pension Valbella became the Posthotel Valbella, was rebuilt several times and finally completely renovated in 1964. The owner at the time also acquired the Caselva and converted it into the Hotel Valbella Inn.
Luzius Bergamin, the current owner of the Posthotel Valbella, has carried out extensive renovation work on the hotel rooms, the wellness facilities and the restaurants.

First building at the top of the pass
Construction of the Acla alva, a Maiensäss building, on the pass from Parpan to Lenzerheide. It was used for farming and can still be visited today.
1897
Maiensäss hamlet of Valbella
The so-called Siegfried Atlas divides Valbella into the Maiensäss hamlets of Canols and Valbella as well as the neighboring hamlets of Sartons, Val Schameala, Liebtgas, Acla alva and Fastatsch.
End of the 19th century
Preferred location Valbella
In the north of the high valley facing south, chalets were built by families from Chur who preferred this location with a view of the Heidsee and the Bergarena.

First pension
Purchase of land for the construction of Pension Valbella by the brothers Paul Fidel and Caspar Parpan.
1905
Valbella post office
The post office is moved here to the top of the pass, before that it was called Lenzerheide-See. The name Valbella was not accepted at first and only became established in the 1940s.
1964
New Posthotel Valbella building
The hotel underwent several extensions and conversions. It was not until 1964 that the then owner decided to completely rebuild the hotel.
2015
Today's Posthotel Valbella
Entrepreneur Luzius Bergamin buys the Posthotel and renovates all the guest rooms, the restaurants and the wellness oasis. This gives the popular hotel a significant upgrade, which delights guests.
